One day Plants delivery: Price, Quality and Cost

One Day Plant Delivery: Price, Quality and Cost

One-day plant delivery or same day plant delivery is becoming very popular; the rise in quick-commerce has promoted such nonsensical services. Why do I call them nonsensical? Just because we at Idyl don't do it? Or because I want to demean our competition's efforts in bringing you one-day plant delivery?

Before I give you my logic, answer the below five questions honestly.

  1. Do you really need your plants immediately like dal, chawal, or atta?
  2. What would it cost me to bring you the plants if I have two orders from opposite corners of the city with the 24-hour clock on my head?
  3. Where will the company recover this cost from? Will it pay out of its own pocket?
  4. If a company has 100 orders in a day, what's the likelihood of it finding the best quality plant for you?
  5. Do you really get the delivery within one day?

I think you know where I am going with this, but I'll still spell it out for you to understand the answer to the above questions and justify why one-day delivery makes no sense.

Do you really need your plants in 10 minutes like dal, chawal, or atta?

You buy plants for many reasons: you may love them as your pet, they make your room, balcony, desk, etc., look good, for growing your own minimalist edible plants, for creating an aesthetically pleasing fancy terrace, outdoor garden, or because you are environmentally sound and want to contribute to the reduction of global warming at the tiniest level.

But do you buy plants for instant gratification? If you do, please write to us so that we can understand your logic as well at aman@idyl.co.in.

So, bottom line, NO! You, under no scenario, need your plants the same day.

What would it cost the plant store to bring you the plants if they have two orders from opposite corners of the city within the 24-hour clock?

It's going to cost them a lot. Let us assume the average order value is Rs.500 and they have a profit margin of 15% after all costs. So, the profit is Rs.75 that they can play around with. Trying to deliver to two different places on the same day without any additional orders in that direction, they'll have to spend twice as much on logistics, reducing the profit to Rs.37.50 on an order of Rs.500.

Where will the company recover this cost from? Will it pay out of its own pocket?

No, they are not going to pay from their own pocket. Everybody needs to make some profit to pay their employees, staff, and make money for themselves to survive, so obviously, they are going to take this money from you, and that only means two things: either they'll increase the price of the plants or reduce the quality of plants. And that's exactly what people who are promising you one-day delivery are doing, and that's why either you have a bad experience with quality shopping online or complain about the price of the plants.

If a company has 100 orders in a day, what's the likelihood of them finding the best quality plants for you?

Even the biggest players in the market have about 20 employees on the field picking and packaging your plants for delivery. It's obvious that with an increased amount of orders within a short span of time, quality will be impacted, and they will send you plants that don't meet your expectations, and you will have issues trusting in ordering online again. All this because you asked for a one-day delivery.

Do you really get the delivery within one day?

Lastly, try remembering the last time you ordered from a platform that promised you one-day delivery of plants. Did it really arrive within a day? If it arrived a bit late, did you care? Did you just end up paying a premium for the plants by falling for the same-day delivery marketing lie?

I hope I have made my logic clear behind calling same-day delivery or one-day delivery nonsensical. It increases our cost, the price for you, and reduces the time we have to bring you the best quality plants to your doorstep. I hope this stops you from falling for marketing tactics and helps you make a sensible choice to opt for a place that offers you quality over speed.
